Senior Delivery Consultant - Mainframe Modernisation (AWS ProServe)

About the role

The AWS Professional Services team is looking for an experienced Senior Delivery Consultant focused on mainframe modernisation. You will work with enterprise customers to assess, design and deliver mainframe migration and modernisation solutions on AWS, acting as a trusted advisor on migration patterns, emerging technologies such as agentic and generative AI for code transformation, and industry-proven modernisation approaches.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the assessment and discovery of customer mainframe estates, including application portfolio analysis, dependency mapping and modernisation readiness evaluation.
• Design and implement modernisation solutions on AWS, including replatforming, refactoring to cloud-native services and automated code transformation.
• Provide technical guidance on mainframe technologies (COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, VSAM) and their AWS equivalents throughout project delivery.
• Work with customer architects, development teams and business stakeholders to define migration waves, prioritise workloads and manage cutover risk.
• Advise customers on modernisation trends, including AI-assisted code transformation, automated testing and incremental migration patterns.
• Share knowledge internally through mentoring, training and reusable artefacts such as playbooks, assessment frameworks and reference architectures.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience with enterprise application modernisation and migration technologies, including mainframe, serverless, containers or cloud operations.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with mainframe technologies (z/OS, COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, VSAM).
• 3+ years with AWS or an equivalent cloud platform, especially migration-related services.
• Experience with mainframe modernisation patterns (replatforming, refactoring, automated code transformation) and database migration from mainframe to cloud-native databases.
• Preferred: 7+ years of mainframe and legacy systems experience, 5+ years leading or delivering modernisation programmes, 5+ years of external customer-facing consulting, and exposure to AI-assisted code analysis or generative AI tools.
