Senior Data Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Data Engineer within ANZ's Data & Personalisation Technology team, you will design and build data products that power customer communications and marketing campaigns. The role focuses on creating scalable, reliable data solutions on Google Cloud Platform to support the retail bank’s growth and activation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Translate marketing requirements into data models that trigger next‑best‑action recommendations.
• Design and optimise physical data structures in Google BigQuery for efficiency and scalability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and engineering teams to ensure solutions meet expectations and follow best‑practice patterns.
• Profile batch and real‑time source data to define integration specifications.
• Develop robust unit tests and anomaly detection using DBT tests, Pytest and Elementary.
• Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines for data deployments.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of data governance and asset accessibility.

Required profile

• Strong analytical mindset with excellent SQL data analysis and profiling abilities.
• Proven experience designing or building BI/DW or ETL solutions, especially with DBT or Dataform.
• Hands‑on experience with data pipeline orchestration and configuration‑as‑code.
• Familiarity with cloud‑native environments, preferably GCP.
• Ability to work autonomously on complex problems while supporting routine enhancements.
