Senior CSR Engineer, Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC, part of the Surbana Jurong group, is seeking a Senior Combined Services Route (CSR) Engineer to lead the design and delivery of rail utility routes across Australia and New Zealand. You will work within a collaborative, flexible environment, contributing to high‑impact infrastructure projects that shape the future of rail and metro networks.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of CSR designs ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, AMB guidelines and client requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, project managers and stakeholders to produce integrated, high‑quality design packages.
• Apply project management principles to meet deliverables on schedule and within budget.
• Oversee the preparation of detailed design documentation and construction drawings for major rail projects.
• Support safety‑in‑design reviews and incorporate construction, maintenance and operational considerations.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in rail utility engineering within an engineering design consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of Australian rail standards, AMB specifications and safety‑in‑design principles.
• Proven ability to lead CSR packages and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills and a track record of delivering major rail infrastructure designs.

Required skills

• 3D BIM modelling of CSR routes
• Proficiency with 12D, Civil 3D and Navisworks
• Rail utility engineering and design according to Australian standards
