Senior Community Engagement Officer

About the role

Join the First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research team at the University of Queensland to provide community engagement and communications support across research projects. This fixed‑term senior role focuses on building respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and translating research into impact.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, organisations and healthcare workers.
• Maintain and support the Cancer Ambassador program and help plan and deliver stakeholder and consumer events.
• Work with research teams and external organisations to strengthen strategic research partnerships and engagement.
• Develop communication and knowledge translation strategies and produce clear, accessible written and visual content for websites, brochures, newsletters, social media and other publications.

Required profile

• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person (genuine occupational requirement).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to engage respectfully with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
• Experience or genuine commitment to engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership development or community engagement, ideally within healthcare, research or related sectors.
• Well‑developed written communication skills to translate complex information into clear, accessible content.
• Ability to coordinate activities, manage competing priorities and work collaboratively to achieve shared goals.

• Base salary $97,269–$104,349 plus 17% superannuation (HEW Level 6).
