Senior Communications Manager

About the role

Whatnot is building the largest live shopping platform in North America, Europe and now Australia. As the first communications hire for the Australian market, you will lead storytelling across corporate, consumer, Trust & Safety and policy priorities, shaping how audiences perceive live commerce.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a communications strategy that highlights the power of live commerce and builds credibility for Whatnot in Australia.
• Build and nurture relationships with Australian media, both traditional and digital, to position Whatnot as a household name.
• Establish a communications playbook for rapid response and crisis management, handling high‑profile escalations in real time.
• Educate audiences about live commerce benefits for businesses and consumers.

Required profile

• 8+ years of public relations or corporate communications experience.
• Strong understanding of the Australian media, cultural and policy landscape.
• Ability to thrive in a small, ambiguous team and produce results independently.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience crafting key messages for media and owned channels.

Required skills

• Experience managing Trust & Safety issues and crisis communications.
