Senior Civil Engineer - Adelaide

About the role

Tonkin, an employee-owned engineering, environment, urban development and construction consultancy founded in 1955, is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join its growing Adelaide team. The role contributes to a variety of civil infrastructure projects and involves liaising internally with staff in the Local Government Program and externally with local government clients, service providers and authorities. The position is based in Adelaide but covers projects throughout Australia, mainly in South Australia and Victoria.

Key responsibilities

• Design and document civil infrastructure projects for local government clients and developers, covering stormwater, civil and transport disciplines.
• Produce well-documented designs, including documents, drawings, specifications and reports that meet Tonkin's and client standards.
• Support field and investigative work by undertaking site visits alongside peers.
• Provide inputs to other engineers and drafters and collaborate with other disciplines for project coordination.
• Work with Project Engineers, designers/drafters and senior/principal engineers in a supportive Adelaide-based team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a civil engineering discipline.
• At least 7 years' experience in civil infrastructure projects, with an understanding of Australian standards and guidelines.
• Demonstrated technical background in civil engineering, including knowledge of Australian Standards and industry guides.
• Experience with local government is preferred.
• Right to live and work permanently in the location.

Required skills

• Understanding of relevant software such as AutoCAD or stormwater modelling software and how it applies to the infrastructure lifecycle.
• Good written and verbal communication, analytical thinking and attention to detail.
• Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and to multi-task efficiently.
