Senior Audit Manager - Australia Retail

About the role

The Australia Retail and Business & Private Bank audit teams deliver independent third-line assurance over governance, risk management and controls across their portfolios. Reporting to the Audit Director, this Senior Audit Manager plans and executes audits across end-to-end customer value chains and critical operations, assessing customer outcomes, conduct, service reliability and regulatory compliance. The role is based at 833 Collins Street, Docklands, Melbourne, on a permanent, full-time basis of 40 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex, high-risk audit engagements as Team Lead across the Australia Retail portfolio, aligned to the approved Internal Audit plan.
• Manage audit delivery to agreed timelines and budgets, escalate delivery risks and follow up issues.
• Contribute to annual audit planning, highlighting key portfolio risks and coverage needs.
• Ensure effective risk identification and scoping, applying sound risk judgement and Global Internal Audit Standards.
• Embed data analytics and AI in audit planning and execution.
• Engage with business stakeholders and escalate matters needing judgement or direction.
• Apply risk management frameworks such as the Non-Financial Risk Framework.
• Ensure audit findings are material, timely and commercially pragmatic.
• Lead, coach and develop audit team members and foster a speak-up culture.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of audit methodology, evidence standards, reporting and issue validation.
• Deep knowledge of banking fundamentals, products, customers, channels and value chains.
• Expertise in conduct risk, fraud (internal and external), regulatory, transaction processing, business continuity and third-party risks.
• Track record delivering medium to high complexity audits with defensible outcomes.
• Ability to engage senior stakeholders and use data and analytics in assurance.
• Experience developing audit team members and a speak-up culture.
• Good to have: prior Australia Retail or Business & Private Bank experience, exposure to remediation or thematic reviews, and experience auditing change or transformation.
