Senior-Associate Fire Safety Engineer - Building Services

About the role

A well-established, award-winning multidisciplinary Building Services Engineering consultancy in Sydney is seeking an experienced Senior-Associate Fire Safety Engineer to join its specialist Fire Engineering team. The role offers technical leadership, mentoring of emerging talent and shaping fire safety strategies for high-profile commercial, residential, healthcare, education and infrastructure projects across Greater Sydney and NSW. It is based in the Sydney CBD with a hybrid arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop fire safety strategies and performance solutions in line with the National Construction Code, Australian Standards and Fire Engineering Guidelines
• Carry out fire risk assessments, fire and smoke modelling (e.g. FDS, Pathfinder, PyroSim), evacuation analysis and structural fire protection assessments
• Design and specify active and passive fire protection systems, including detection, suppression, smoke control and compartmentation
• Advise architects, clients, certifiers and authorities having jurisdiction, including FRNSW
• Prepare fire safety engineering reports (FSER) and supporting documentation for Development Applications and Construction Certificates
• Lead technical reviews, peer reviews and value engineering exercises
• Mentor junior and intermediate fire engineers and work with the MEP and hydraulic teams

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• 8+ years of fire safety engineering experience in Australia, in building services or consulting
• Proven track record on complex performance-based fire engineering projects
• CPEng, NPER or eligibility for Chartered status with Engineers Australia (highly regarded)
• Demonstrated leadership and project/team management ability
• Current Australian working rights; applicants must live in Australia

Required skills

• Fire dynamics and fire modelling software
• National Construction Code and standards such as AS 2118, AS 2419, AS 1670, AS 3000
• Report writing, presentation and stakeholder management
