Senior Associate Engineer, Urban Infrastructure

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Associate Engineer to join SMEC’s Urban Infrastructure team in Brisbane. The role focuses on construction phase services, including site supervision, project management, contract administration and quality management across urban, land development and municipal projects.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a high level of technical expertise in engineering and construction methods, materials, equipment and techniques.
• Pre‑empt and resolve on‑site construction problems.
• Manage client and stakeholder relationships and understand their drivers.
• Mentor and train junior staff, fostering a growth mindset.
• Monitor construction progress against programme schedules.
• Approve contractor progress claims and contract variations within specified limits.
• Ensure accurate two‑way information flow for allocated projects.
• Comply with role‑specific requirements and responsibilities.
• Collaborate proactively with team members and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and coordination of deliverables.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 10–15 years of construction engineering experience.
• Experience in urban, land development, roads or municipal projects.
• Strong knowledge of Australian codes and standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Australian driver’s licence and White Card.
• Exposure to multidisciplinary design development and authority approvals is highly regarded.
