Senior Advisor HSET

About the role

BTP, which has supported Australia's mining and heavy industries for more than 35 years, is looking for an experienced Senior HSET Advisor to lead health, safety, environment and training governance across its operations. Based from the Hazelmere office and supporting BTP sites and branches, the role involves working with operational teams, influencing safety outcomes and owning assurance, systems, reporting and continuous improvement. It is not an administrative position; the advisor makes day-to-day decisions, gives technical guidance to leaders and HSE personnel and helps ensure HSET frameworks are applied consistently.

Key responsibilities

• Lead critical risk management and assurance activities, including SystemChecks and internal HSE audits
• Support the consistent application of the Critical Risk Management framework and its verification tools
• Facilitate ICAM investigations and Learning Teams across operations
• Administer core HSET systems and maintain data integrity, reporting and access standards
• Coordinate inputs into monthly and quarterly HSET reporting
• Support alignment with ISO 45001:2018, including surveillance audit preparation
• Manage and standardise occupational health and hygiene monitoring
• Own training and competency governance, including compliance reporting
• Support capability and safety leadership programs and give technical guidance to site-based HSE personnel

Required profile

• Relevant Health and Safety qualification, diploma level or higher
• Strong HSE experience in mining, resources or another heavy-industry environment
• Experience applying critical risk management and assurance frameworks
• Experience administering HSET systems such as document control, learning and competency, incident management or safety platforms
• Strong investigation, reporting and analytical capability
• Ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels and to challenge and influence with credible technical advice

Required skills

• Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and risk management principles including AS/NZS ISO 31000
• Advantageous: ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification, AIHS membership, and experience with INX Training Management, Evotix or equivalent safety management systems
