Senior Accountant - Energy Storage Projects

About the role

BW ESS, a global energy storage owner-operator owned by BW Group, is looking for a Senior Accountant to act as the technical accounting lead for its Australian portfolio. This is a hands-on role covering financial reporting, technical accounting, audit, tax and compliance across corporate and project entities, working across a growing portfolio of BESS projects and operating assets.

Key responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly and year-end close across corporate and project entities, and maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts and consolidated financial information
• Manage journals, accruals, reconciliations, payables, receivables and payments
• Lead technical assessments under AASB and IFRS for project expenditure, financing arrangements, acquisitions and other significant transactions, and lead accounting activity as projects move through development, construction and operations
• Prepare statutory financial statements and disclosures, coordinate external audits and respond to audit requests
• Coordinate tax compliance with external tax advisers and ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies and regulatory obligations
• Review outsourced accounting deliverables and partner with external advisers and auditors on complex matters
• Strengthen financial controls and systems, support company secretarial activity where finance input is needed, and monitor emerging accounting developments

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualification with 5+ years' experience in financial accounting and close processes
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
• Experience managing payables, receivables, bookkeeping and payments
• Experience in a fast-paced growth environment
• Nice to have: energy sector experience or a genuine interest in the sector

Required skills

• Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, consolidations and tax regulations
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems such as Oracle and Xero
• Knowledge of complex asset or infrastructure project accounting and industry-specific regulations
• Analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills; ability to work independently and improve processes and controls
