Sample Preparer - Geochemistry Site

About the role

ALS is seeking multiple Sample Preparers for its Geochemistry site in Pooraka, supporting mining and exploration clients. The role is based in a warehouse where machinery is operated to crush, split and pulverise mineral samples for laboratory analysis. It is a physically demanding, dusty job where a half-face respirator is mandatory and you must be clean-shaven. It is a casual position, and you must be able to work Monday to Friday either 6:30 am to 2:30 pm or 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

Key responsibilities

• Operate sample preparation equipment according to the procedures in the relevant QWIs
• Sort received samples according to the client's submission form and record discrepancies on the sample sorting sheet
• Apply barcode labels, capture received sample weights in the Gems interface and transfer scanned samples to drying racks
• Crush, riffle, split and sieve samples before drying them at the specified temperature
• Operate pulverising mills to reach the required end-product specification
• Inform the supervisor promptly of issues such as excessively wet samples or machinery breakdowns
• Maintain machinery and equipment and keep work areas clean and tidy

Required profile

• Full-time availability and willingness to work rotating rosters
• Previous production experience and flexibility with availability are highly advantageous
• Ability to follow set procedures and excellent attention to detail
• Reliable, physically fit and able to handle repetitive manual tasks
• Eligible to work in Australia (citizen or permanent resident, or holder of a valid working visa)
