Road Maintenance Leading Hand

About the role

Service Stream is looking for an experienced Road Maintenance Leading Hand to join its VRMC team from the Frankston/Clayton location. The main responsibility is to support the Civil Maintenance Supervisor in leading the onsite Maintenance Crew, other field staff and sub-contractors, making sure work is done safely, within environmental controls and with a high standard of quality and productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the safety culture with the crew and wider team, promote safe working practices and encourage raising hazards at pre-start meetings
• Ensure hazards are identified, risk assessed (Take 5) and corrective actions put in place
• Report incidents and hazards and escalate concerns promptly
• Provide field leadership for civil work activities and assist in managing site security, deliveries, storage and housekeeping
• Check that plant and equipment is pre-started correctly, clean, safe and operational, and help maintain the fleet and incident response vehicles
• Carry out routine maintenance and defect rectification on civil assets as directed
• Support the Maintenance Supervisor in meeting KPIs and contract targets, and provide traffic management support, including certified traffic management
• Assist in after-hours call-outs and emergency response, liaising with Emergency Services and local authorities when needed
• Provide professional customer service and record maintenance data in the Asset Management System using field computers (iPad)

Required profile

• Proven experience in road maintenance field work and supervision of field resources
• Competency in plant and equipment used on civil maintenance contracts, including small plant
• Heavy vehicle licence; construction induction (white card) accepted in Victoria
• Senior First Aid certificate
• Minimum 3 years' experience in civil maintenance and traffic management (desirable)
• Knowledge of asset management, current heavy vehicle driver licence, traffic controller qualifications (all desirable)
