Registered Nurse – Close Observation Unit

About the role

The Close Observation Unit (COU) provides an intermediate level of care between a general ward and a High Dependency Unit for high‑risk obstetric and gynaecological patients. The Registered Nurse/Midwife will coordinate and deliver nursing care in line with hospital standards and national quality guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for women requiring higher levels of monitoring than standard ward‑based care.
• Coordinate care on a five‑bed, level‑3 COU, working 12‑hour shifts on a six‑week roster.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, high‑quality patient outcomes.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
• At least 2 years recent acute‑care nursing experience, including rhythm interpretation, invasive blood pressure monitoring and non‑invasive ventilation.
• Strong communication, time‑management and teamwork skills.
