Quality & Compliance Specialist

About the role

Koala is seeking a Quality & Compliance Specialist to ensure its sleep accessories, homewares, and hard furniture meet the highest safety, durability, and ethical standards. You will act as the technical authority for product quality and regulatory compliance across assigned categories.

Key responsibilities

• Lead quality and compliance for assigned product categories in partnership with the Director of Product Quality & Compliance.
• Plan and coordinate third‑party and in‑house testing (comfort deflection, durability, chemical limits) throughout the product lifecycle.
• Build and maintain evidence files to substantiate all product claims.
• Ensure timber and wood‑based products comply with the Illegal Logging Prohibition Act.
• Monitor evolving local and global regulations and educate internal teams and suppliers.
• Provide technical consulting to manufacturing partners to meet Koala’s standards.
• Analyse customer returns and warranty data to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
• Manage supplier credit claims for manufacturing faults and report to finance.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in Quality Assurance or Compliance, preferably in hard furniture, soft furnishings, or textiles.
• Strong understanding of global furniture standards (EN, ISO, AU/NZ) and mandatory safety requirements.
• Detail‑oriented “data detective” mindset with the ability to interpret complex data.

Required skills

• Knowledge of EN/ISO/AU/NZ furniture standards.
• Experience coordinating third‑party testing and in‑house evaluations.
• Timber due‑diligence expertise, including compliance with the Illegal Logging Prohibition Act.
• Regulatory monitoring and compliance documentation.
• Data analysis of returns and warranty information.
