Production Manager

About the role

The Production Manager supports the Head of Production in planning, scoping and delivering shows, events, installations and functions for the Festival. This role works closely with programming, venues and external partners to ensure each event runs safely, on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with the programming department to define event scopes for upcoming festivals.
• Manage Project Managers and Event Coordinators as directed by the Head of Production.
• Create and adjust detailed event production schedules.
• Prepare Vectorworks plans, event management plans and development applications.
• Coordinate with venues on operations, logistics, technical elements, rehearsal spaces and crowd management.
• Develop event manuals, risk‑management and evacuation documentation.
• Oversee event budgets, reconcile expenses and manage invoices through the Sydney Festival order system.
• Supervise on‑site event delivery, contractor coordination, transport and bump‑in/out activities.
• Maintain accurate event files and ensure equipment return and debt settlement.
• Report budget, quality or safety changes to the Head of Production and complete post‑festival debriefs.

Required profile

• Minimum five years’ experience in live theatre or live event production.
• Strong understanding of the not‑for‑profit arts environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and forward‑planning abilities.
• Proven ability to manage multiple, conflicting priorities in a fast‑paced setting.
• Effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and boards.
