Quality and Compliance Manager

About the role

A high-growth, high-volume food manufacturer in Melbourne is looking for a Quality and Compliance Manager to lead its quality and food safety function. The role works closely with operations, senior leadership and customers to maintain standards as the business grows. It is hands-on and suits someone who combines strong technical quality experience with commercial awareness and excellent communication skills.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain food safety and quality systems, certifications and audit schedules
• Lead customer audits, quality meetings and ongoing customer relationships
• Manage complaints, non-conformances, investigations and corrective actions
• Oversee HACCP, allergen management, traceability, recalls and supplier quality
• Work closely with production to maintain quality and food safety standards
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste and manage the cost of quality
• Resolve quality disputes with customers using facts
• Develop and maintain SOPs and coach and mentor the quality team
• Build quality ownership across the site and take responsibility for quality outcomes

Required profile

• Senior quality experience within high-volume food manufacturing
• Experience managing major customer or retailer requirements and audits
• Hands-on approach, able to work closely with production teams
• Ability to take ownership, work autonomously and balance technical and commercial priorities

Required skills

• SQF or FSSC 22000 certification management
• HACCP knowledge and leading certification audits
• Food safety legislation, allergen management, traceability and recalls
• Complaints handling, root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Supplier quality, GMP, sanitation and foreign matter controls
• Strong communication skills and commercial awareness of the cost of quality
