Field Service Engineer / Mechanical Fitter - Wind Turbines

About the role

Newkey Consulting is looking for experienced mechanical engineers or fitters to perform specialised up-tower maintenance, repair and component change-out work across the wind industry. The role is hands-on, combining field work at wind farms with workshop-based maintenance, and is based in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and maintain equipment at regional customer sites (70%) and in the client's workshop (30%).
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs, overhauls and maintenance on site and in the workshop.
• Carry out equipment and drive inspections using video scope, vibration analysis and thermography.
• Prepare technical reports with findings and recommendations, and provide technical support to customers.
• Develop, review and update risk assessments for site and workshop activities.
• Complete all work in line with WHS processes, procedures and safety requirements.

Required profile

• Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting or a related mechanical trade qualification.
• Demonstrated experience in industrial site environments.
• Hands-on experience with equipment strip-down, inspection, testing, assembly and reassembly.
• Ability to take and record measurements and technical data accurately.
• Willingness to travel to regional sites and occasional interstate travel, with possible overseas projects.

Required skills

• Gearbox overhaul and repair experience is highly desirable.
• Up-tower wind turbine repair and major component change-outs are highly regarded.
• GWO training and current certifications are highly advantageous; training can be provided.
