About the role
HammondCare is looking for a Puzzle/Games Volunteer to provide social opportunities for older patients in the Older Persons' Mental Health unit at North Ryde. The role is about kindness, presence and the power of social connection, offering friendly conversation and activities such as games, puzzles, colouring in or other pastimes, or simply being a good listener.
Key responsibilities
- Offer friendly conversation and connect with patients through games, puzzles, colouring in or other activities.
- Use empathy and a good listening ear to promote relaxed, social engagement with patients.
- Visit regularly; regular visits can improve quality of life and help people feel less isolated.
Required profile
- Aged 18 years and over.
- Willingness to meet NSW Department of Health immunisation standards for this role (HepB, measles, mumps and rubella, tetanus, influenza), or willingness to discuss meeting them.
- Commitment of one hour per week for 12 months or longer, preferably between Monday and Friday.
HammondCare is an independent Christian charity. Applicants are contacted by phone or text after applying, and a national police check is organised and paid for by HammondCare. More information on volunteering is available on the HammondCare website.
