Purchasing Lead

About the role

Our client, a leading Melbourne‑based supplier of plumbing, HVAC, fire protection and electrical products to the commercial construction sector, is seeking a Purchasing Lead. You will manage procurement across multiple warehouses, lead a team of three purchasing officers and balance cost, quality and delivery for both local and overseas suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and manage a team of three purchasing officers.
• Develop and execute the procurement strategy for local and international sourcing.
• Raise, adjust and finalise purchase orders (local and import) based on system recommendations and analysis.
• Negotiate and manage supplier relationships to ensure cost competitiveness, quality standards and delivery performance.
• Maintain optimal stock levels in collaboration with inventory, sales and operations teams.
• Work closely with Finance to manage purchasing budgets, forecast spend and drive cost‑saving initiatives.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain or purchasing, preferably within the building services or construction industry.
• Strong negotiation abilities and experience managing supplier pricing, delivery terms and quality requirements.
• Solid understanding of purchasing processes, stock replenishment, supplier evaluation and cost control.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with inventory management systems.
• Experience with purchasing software management systems.
