Project Manager - National Security and Defence

About the role

BAE Systems Digital Intelligence is hiring a Project Manager for its project delivery team in Canberra, working on a diverse portfolio of projects within the National Security and Defence business areas. The role involves shaping, mobilising, planning and leading critical projects, and may include supporting a Program Manager with parts of a larger project. An active NV2 clearance is required at the time of commencement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a small project or a work package of a larger project, and depute for the Project Manager as appropriate
• Manage the full project lifecycle so customer needs are met and financial and other benefits are achieved
• Identify, assess and manage project risks, and agree the project approach with stakeholders
• Prepare realistic plans covering quality, risk and communications, and track activities against the schedule
• Apply PM methods and tools, whether plan-driven or iterative/agile
• Perform advanced project reporting and scheduling, and solve problems using prior experience
• Consolidate expertise from multiple sources, including third-party experts, and share specialist knowledge within the organisation
• Influence stakeholders internally and externally, and build relationships and negotiate outcomes

Required profile

• Active NV2 clearance at the time of commencement
• University degree, or substantial practical knowledge gained through experience; a PM qualification such as the APM Project Management Qualification is typical
• Experience of influencing stakeholders and negotiating outcomes with internal stakeholders
• Ability to deliver with limited guidance from the line manager

Required skills

• Advanced project reporting and scheduling
• Knowledge of PM policies, processes, procedures and systems, and of PM governance and assurance such as Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBRs)
• Understanding of one or more PM tools, techniques and practices
• Spreadsheets and Microsoft packages
