Project Manager - Commercial & Defence Construction

About the role

McMahon Services is seeking an experienced Project Manager for its Building & Construction team, which delivers commercial, industrial, Defence, education, government and community projects across South Australia. The role covers projects from pre-construction through to completion, working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams. Applicants must be Australian citizens and able to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver commercial and Defence construction projects from planning through to completion.
• Lead Project Engineers, Site Managers and project delivery teams.
• Manage budgets, forecasting, procurement and commercial performance.
• Oversee contract administration, variations, claims and project risk.
• Manage project programmes, resources and key delivery milestones.
• Build relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and stakeholders.
• Drive safety, quality and environmental performance and meet Defence, client and compliance requirements where applicable.
• Identify value engineering opportunities and provide clear project reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering commercial construction projects as a Project Manager, or strong Senior Project Engineer experience.
• Experience delivering Design & Construct (D&C) projects.
• Experience with a Tier 2 or high-performing Tier 3 contractor.
• Australian citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
• Tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
• Previous Defence or Government construction experience, and experience taking projects through the full delivery lifecycle, will set you apart.

Required skills

• Strong commercial acumen and experience managing project financial performance.
• Sound understanding of construction contracts, procurement and project delivery.
• Leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience using Procore, Pronto or similar project management systems; commercial carpentry experience highly regarded.
