Project Manager – Aviation Infrastructure Build

About the role

Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of a brand‑new aviation infrastructure project on Horn Island, a flagship development that will shape future capability in the Torres Strait. You will own a high‑visibility, end‑to‑end build with real autonomy.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full project lifecycle from early design and construction planning through to regulatory approvals and handover.
• Oversee contractor management, physical security requirements, IT integration and on‑the‑ground coordination.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors and internal aviation stakeholders to keep the project aligned and on schedule.
• Build strong relationships with local councils, regulatory bodies, Traditional Owners and community representatives.
• Navigate environmental, compliance and planning approval processes.
• Prepare governance and risk documentation, including board‑level reporting and gate approvals.
• Identify continuous‑improvement opportunities to enhance processes and delivery.

Required profile

• Australian citizen with a Defence Security Clearance (or ability to obtain).
• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience delivering infrastructure, capital works or construction projects, preferably in remote or regional settings.
• Proven stakeholder‑engagement experience with councils, regulators and Indigenous communities.
• Strong knowledge of Australian building codes, environmental regulations and planning approval processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex infrastructure projects from concept to completion.
