Project Engineer (Mechanical)

About the role

McMahon Services is looking for a Project Engineer (Mechanical) to join its Engineering & Projects team in Adelaide. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will support the planning, coordination and delivery of mechanical and SMP (Structural, Mechanical & Piping) projects from initial planning through to construction and completion. The role suits an engineer with 2-5 years' experience who enjoys project delivery, technical problem solving and working closely with construction teams.

Key responsibilities

• Support the planning, coordination and delivery of mechanical and SMP projects.
• Provide technical engineering advice and practical solutions to project challenges.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site personnel.
• Assist with project programming, scheduling and milestone monitoring.
• Support procurement of materials, equipment and subcontractor engagement.
• Monitor project costs, progress, productivity and potential variations.
• Maintain project documentation, reporting and quality records.
• Identify construction risks, technical issues and improvement opportunities.
• Liaise with clients, consultants and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with Australian Standards, specifications and contracts, and promote WHSEQ and safe working practices.

Required profile

• 2-5 years' experience in a Project Engineer or similar engineering role.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience across mechanical, SMP, industrial or construction projects.
• Good understanding of mechanical construction methods and project delivery.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and construction activities.
• Willingness to travel for project requirements when needed.

Required skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Project cost monitoring, procurement and reporting.
• Preferred: SMP project experience in mining, water, oil and gas or industrial settings, knowledge of mechanical installation, piping and structural steelwork, and familiarity with project management software such as Pronto, InEight, Aconex or Procore.
