Project Controller – Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Project Controller to join its Rail team in either North Sydney or Brisbane. The role focuses on driving project performance, commercial outcomes and data‑led decision‑making across major rail infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure project control processes, scheduling and resource planning meet client requirements and SMEC technical standards.
• Develop and maintain advanced Power BI reporting solutions and dashboards for project and business leaders.
• Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and coordination of deliverables.
• Compile reasoning and justification behind project performance metrics and support successful project outcomes.
• Contribute to the commercial success of projects and the broader Rail team.
• Support continuous improvement through reporting automation, data visualisation and process efficiencies.

Required profile

• 8+ years of project controls experience.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• High‑level consulting, stakeholder engagement and client management skills.
• Strong administration, organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail.

Required skills

• Advanced Power BI expertise, including dashboard development.
• Advanced Excel skills (large data sets, Power Query, pivot tables, complex formulas).
• Experience with Primavera P6 (bonus).
