Process Engineer - Rod Mill Operations

About the role

InfraBuild, a steel manufacturer that produces steel from recycled scrap through its electric arc furnace network in Victoria and New South Wales, is hiring a Process Engineer for its Rod Mill operations in Newcastle, NSW. Reporting to the Rod Mill Technical and Warehouse Superintendent, the engineer leads and supports quality and process improvement projects, working with Operations, Maintenance, Technical teams, suppliers and leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Keep systems, standards and equipment related to safety, quality and plant performance under control
• Work with frontline teams to understand plant operations and spot improvement opportunities
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance and technical teams to implement process improvements and solve operational challenges
• Develop, maintain and improve process control systems, procedures and operating standards
• Analyse production and process data to find trends, inefficiencies and optimisation opportunities
• Carry out root cause investigations for process deviations and set up corrective and preventive actions
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, quality and regulatory requirements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Metallurgy or Mechanical engineering
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies
• Experience in heavy manufacturing, steel manufacturing or similar industrial environments
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proactive, team-oriented approach suited to a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with a commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence
