Principal Signalling Design Engineer

About the role

Egis is seeking a technically excellent Principal Signalling Design Engineer to lead design review, verification and independent principles verification of conventional signalling designs across Australia and New Zealand. You will guide a team of designers and engineers to deliver high‑quality rail signalling solutions for medium to major projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of signal designers and engineers, managing design activities, performance requirements and commercial responsibilities.
• Manage design approvals, produce design packages, reports and management plans.
• Design, check, independently verify and sign off high‑level signalling documentation, including feasibility studies, technical requirements, bonding/cable plans, control tables and power calculations.
• Verify infrastructure assets such as trackside signalling, train detection, SCADA and interlocking systems.
• Provide technical advice to clients and stakeholders on interfacing operational systems.
• Conduct principle testing, simulation testing and project performance reporting, including financial reporting.
• Mentor junior signalling engineers and project engineers.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years’ experience in railway signalling with specialist knowledge of conventional signal design.
• RPEQ registration and relevant QR / ARTC competencies.
• Tertiary qualification in Electrical/Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent IRSE licence).
• Accreditation from Engineers Australia and membership with IRSE; CPENG highly desired.
• Strong technical knowledge of signalling interfaces, power, communications, track and civil systems.
• Proven ability to lead project teams and deliver to client expectations.
