Principal Secondary Design Engineer

About the role

The Principal Secondary Design Engineer will lead technical delivery of secondary, protection, control and SCADA designs for high‑voltage transmission and distribution substation projects across Australasia. This senior position combines hands‑on engineering with people leadership, client engagement and quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the delivery and review of secondary, protection, control and SCADA designs on transmission and distribution projects.
• Act as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams, ensuring compliant and practical engineering solutions.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams across New Zealand and Australia to deliver complex power infrastructure.
• Mentor and develop engineers and designers, driving capability growth and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Recognised secondary systems engineer with deep technical expertise.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Collaborative leadership style and commitment to mentoring.
• Eligibility to work in Australia; Chartered status or progress towards chartership is advantageous.

Required skills

• Design of secondary and protection systems for high‑voltage transmission and distribution networks.
• Knowledge of substation protection, control and SCADA systems.
• Experience with design review, quality assurance and client engagement.
