Principal Project Engineer

About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a self‑motivated Principal Project Engineer to join its Brisbane team. The role blends administrative and strategic tasks in a fast‑paced rail signalling environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan engineering activities together with the Project Manager and design teams.
• Manage engineering delivery, change, design reviews and technical approvals.
• Produce engineering status reports, risk reviews and configuration management.
• Lead systems engineering and ensure continuous improvement and safety.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with Electrical/Mechanical/Systems focus.
• 5+ years in project engineering, preferably in rail signalling turnkey projects.
• Experience delivering ETCS, ERTMS or CBTC systems.
• Proven resource management and multicultural team collaboration.

Required skills

• ETCS, ERTMS, CBTC knowledge.
• Real‑time system engineering, testing and integration.
• Software verification and validation for safety‑critical systems.
• Agile mindset and data‑driven decision making.
