Principal Product Manager, Data Platform

About the role
REA Group is looking for a Principal Product Manager (Data Platform) to lead the evolution of its data platform, a key part of the Launchpad team within REA's Global Technology group. The role is a fixed-term position of 12 months, based in Melbourne or Sydney, and focuses on increasing data literacy, a data-as-product mindset and adoption of the data mesh operating model.
Key responsibilities
- Define and communicate a vision and roadmap for the Data Platform aligned to company, data and business strategy
- Turn priorities into product outcomes, investment choices and build, buy or partner recommendations
- Lead the product direction of a platform built on Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Atlan, Airflow, Apache Kafka, Soda, Tableau)
- Shape capabilities for scalability, reliability, security, governance and developer experience
- Drive adoption of data mesh and self-service capabilities across REA
- Prioritise platform opportunities with engineering, architecture, data and product teams
- Partner with the Head of Data and act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders
Required profile
- Senior product management or product leadership experience, ideally in complex technology or data environments
- Proven track record of evolving an established data, technology or developer platform
- Strong strategic thinking and ability to connect long-term vision to practical delivery
- Ability to drive adoption of new capabilities and show measurable outcomes
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
Required skills
- Data products, data platforms, data mesh, self-service and governance
- Modern cloud technologies and Google Cloud Platform
- Agile delivery and building partnerships across engineering, architecture, design, data and business
- Experience in a data mesh-inspired operating model is highly regarded
