Principal Procurement Officer (Public Sector)

About the role

The Department of Primary Industries is seeking a senior procurement professional to lead strategic sourcing and contract management across its business groups. This role provides expert advice, drives category strategies, and ensures procurement processes are efficient and compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement procurement strategies, category management plans, and tactical analysis for internal stakeholders.
• Lead end‑to‑end tender processes, from planning through contract award, administration, and ongoing management.
• Prepare procurement correspondence, provide advice, and exercise procurement authorisation.
• Initiate and manage reviews of procurement systems, identifying improvements for an effective function.
• Contribute to the development of departmental procurement policies, systems, and procedures.
• Enhance the capability and profile of procurement within the department and mentor purchasing staff.

Required profile

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying procurement policies, procedures, or frameworks, preferably in a government or public‑sector environment.
• Level 3 Procurement Certification (Diploma in Government – Procurement and Contracting) or equivalent.
