Principal Engineer – Mechanical – Major QLD Rail Projects

About the role

UGL is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of a major greenfield rail project in South East Queensland. Based in Brisbane’s CBD, you will shape the mechanical design approach from concept through to delivery for new dual‑track rail, tunnels, stations and stabling infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design across the project, from concept through to delivery.
• Develop and review mechanical design documentation, calculations and specifications.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with standards, safety requirements and project specifications.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineering staff.

Required profile

• Experience in a Principal or Senior Mechanical Engineering role.
• Strong background in mechanical design within rail or infrastructure environments.
• Experience working across design and delivery phases on major projects.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical standards, systems and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
