Principal Ecologist

About the role

KBR is seeking a Principal Ecologist to lead ecological aspects of diverse environmental projects across Australia. You will provide strategic advice, manage environmental risks, and ensure compliance from concept through construction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Environmental Management Plans (EMP).
• Design, coordinate and conduct targeted flora and fauna surveys, applying a range of ecological survey techniques in the field and office.
• Assess vegetation and habitat quality, develop mitigation recommendations and integrate legislative compliance into project delivery.
• Produce and review high‑quality reports, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards.

Required profile

• Accredited bachelor’s degree in Science, Ecology, Environmental Management or related field.
• Significant industry experience, preferably in a consulting environment, with proven ability to evaluate issues, review contracts and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Eligibility for membership in a professional association and a current driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Ecological survey techniques (flora and fauna surveys, vegetation assessments).
• Preparation of EIS, EIA and EMP documentation.
• Knowledge of Australian ecological legislation and compliance requirements.
• Report writing and technical documentation.
