Job description

About the role

The University of Queensland is looking for a Principal Digital Modelling Officer to lead its Digital Modelling Office and shape how built-environment information is created, governed, connected and used across its property portfolio. The role combines hands-on BIM and digital engineering expertise with strategic influence and people leadership, supporting capital projects, campus operations, asset management and long-term planning. It is a full-time, continuing position based at the St Lucia campus.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the university's digital modelling and built-environment information management function, setting priorities, service plans and resource strategies.
  • Develop and improve standards, policies, procedures and governance for BIM, CAD, mapping, drafting, project information handover and digital workflows.
  • Oversee quality assurance, validation, integration and maintenance of drawings, floor plans, maps, surveys, reality-capture data and digital models.
  • Advise senior leaders, project teams, consultants and contractors, and lead staff, technology initiatives, process improvements and service transformation.

Required profile

  • Degree in a relevant discipline and extensive experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and management expertise.
  • Experience leading a significant digital modelling, built-environment information management, property, infrastructure or comparable specialist function in a complex organisation.
  • Ability to lead specialist technical staff, set priorities, manage workloads and resources, and guide teams through change.
  • Experience leading projects, procurements, technology implementations, automation, process improvement or service-transformation initiatives.
  • Unrestricted work rights in Australia; employer-sponsored work rights are not available.

Required skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, with strong BIM, CAD and digital engineering expertise.
  • Experience developing BIM and CAD standards, digital handover processes, policies, governance frameworks and information-management practices.
  • Quality assurance, model validation and integration of built-environment information with operational or asset management systems.

What we offer

  • Base salary of $120,317 to $134,893 plus 17% superannuation (HEW Level 8).
  • Up to 26 weeks of paid parental and primary care leave, 17.5% leave loading, flexible and hybrid working options.
  • Health and wellbeing programs, a heavily discounted Study for Staff program, on-campus childcare, affordable parking and salary packaging.

Applications close 15 November 2026. Candidates should submit a resume and cover letter through the university's Talent Acquisition team; email applications are not accepted. Pre-employment checks may include right-to-work, qualification and criminal history checks.
