Principal Civil Engineer

About the role

The Queensland Urban Transport team is expanding and seeks a technically excellent Principal Civil Engineer to lead impactful projects on the Gold Coast and across Queensland.

Key responsibilities

• Lead sector growth across local, state and private client portfolios, providing end‑to‑end technical expertise from feasibility to construction certification for complex road, pavement, cycleway and DDA‑compliant infrastructure.
• Build client relationships, identify new project opportunities and win key bids to grow the civil engineering sector.
• Lead project teams, provide technical advice, mentor engineers and manage stakeholder meetings with clients, internal disciplines and external consultants.
• Review technical deliverables such as reports, detailed designs and construction quality assurance data to ensure compliance with standards.
• Manage project finances, monitor time and cost against budget and communicate scope changes to clients.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in urban transport engineering, including large‑scale greenfield and brownfield developments.
• Chartered Engineer status (CPEng) or close to obtaining, and RPEQ or willingness to obtain.
• Proven track record of successfully managing projects to meet client objectives.
• Strong organisational and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement and business development.

Required skills

• Civil design expertise with knowledge of Australian standards, local council planning schemes and relevant guidelines.
• Technical understanding of road, pavement, cycleway and DDA‑compliant infrastructure.
• Project financial management and budgeting.
• Leadership and mentorship of engineering teams.
