Principal Civil Designer - Yeppoon

About the role

Livingstone Shire Council is recruiting a Principal Civil Designer based in Yeppoon, Queensland, to join its Infrastructure Design Team. Reporting to the Coordinator Design Engineering, the role covers investigation, survey, civil design, drafting, estimating, reporting and project documentation for significant municipal infrastructure projects. It combines hands-on technical design with leadership, mentoring and specialist advice, and involves managing a team of two (one Civil Designer and one Cadet Civil Designer).

Key responsibilities

• Develop, assess and refine civil engineering designs, plans, quantities, budgets and supporting documentation for major Council works.
• Carry out or coordinate site-based surveying, including existing conditions, surface modelling and construction set-out.
• Coordinate the day-to-day technical workflow and administration of the Infrastructure Design Team.
• Support the design team through technical direction, coaching, training and professional guidance.
• Apply Council requirements, engineering practices, statutory standards and quality controls throughout design.
• Set engineering and design criteria, track delivery against the approved design schedule and liaise with Council departments, consultants, government bodies, contractors and other parties.
• Answer technical enquiries and keep up-to-date technical and project records.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in civil engineering (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) or Associate Degree in Engineering (Civil)) with substantial practical experience.
• Experience in civil infrastructure design, drafting, estimating and technical documentation, with knowledge of engineering standards, codes and specifications.
• Proven ability to review designs, manage multiple priorities and resolve complex engineering matters.
• Leadership and communication skills, including mentoring technical staff and advising internal and external stakeholders.
• Current C Class driver licence and a Construction Industry Induction White Card, or ability to obtain them.
• Highly desirable: local government civil engineering experience, senior technical resource experience, and substantial experience coaching staff.

Required skills

• Civil design software, particularly Civil 3D (highly desirable: 12D)
• Engineering surveying and survey equipment (highly desirable)
• Working in Proximity to Traffic awareness Parts 1 and 2 (highly desirable)

What we offer

• Salary of $116,666 - $123,656, with 12.5% employer superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading.
• Permanent full-time position of 72.5 hours per fortnight, with fortnightly RDO and ability to bank RDOs.
