Job description
About the role
Rio Tinto is looking for a Principal Adviser Improvement & Learning to help Rio Projects deliver consistent, scalable improvement and organisational learning outcomes across its global project portfolio. You will support the Project Services Improvement Lifecycle and coordinate the end-to-end Lessons Learned program, capturing, sharing and embedding knowledge to improve project delivery. Reporting to the Manager of Improvement, you join a global improvement team. The position is permanent and based in Perth or Brisbane.
Key responsibilities
- Play a major role in the Project Services Improvement Lifecycle, maintaining improvement pipelines, governance processes, reporting and value tracking across the portfolio
- Own and continuously improve the global Lessons Learned process, system, tools and knowledge library
- Coordinate and support complex Lessons Learned reviews and Root Cause Analyses, ensuring evidence-based recommendations are implemented
- Identify recurring themes and improvement opportunities and share insights with project leaders and stakeholders
- Support Safe Production System (SPS) improvement activities, health checks, practical problem solving and capability-building
- Develop guidance materials, templates and training resources so teams can run improvement and learning activities independently
- Coach and influence project teams, senior leaders and stakeholders to embed consistent ways of working
- Partner with PM+, Assurance, Quality, HSE, Controls and Capability teams to integrate lessons and improvement actions into project delivery
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience leading business improvement, organisational learning, continuous improvement or project governance initiatives in major projects, mining, construction, oil and gas or other complex industrial environments
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and working across global, cross-functional teams
- Experience developing processes, governance frameworks, reporting and improvement systems; qualifications are valued but equivalent practical experience is equally welcome
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of Lessons Learned, root cause analysis, structured problem solving, systems thinking and improvement methodologies
- Facilitation, coaching, stakeholder engagement and executive-level written communication
- Helpful: experience with Safe Production System (SPS), Lean, Six Sigma or similar frameworks, major capital project delivery, managing consultants or coordinating portfolios
What we offer
- A permanent position with a competitive base salary and annual incentive program
- Medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family, plus company-provided insurance cover
- Share ownership plan and salary sacrifice and packaging options
- Career development and education assistance, and family-friendly wellbeing support
- Vacation, paid parental, sick and cultural leave, and employee discounts
