Primary HV Engineer for High‑Voltage Projects

About the role

CoMade is seeking a Primary HV Engineer to lead high‑voltage primary designs on complex power projects across Australia. You will own the technical solution from concept through detailed engineering and construction delivery, working with multidisciplinary teams on substations, switchgear, busbars, cables and transmission infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of HV primary systems (typically 132kV‑330kV+).
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence.
• Produce detailed design deliverables and documentation for substations, including layout, clearance studies, earthing, equipment specifications and short‑circuit calculations.
• Coordinate with civil, structural and secondary disciplines to deliver integrated outcomes and liaise with clients and stakeholders.
• Resolve complex technical issues while balancing cost, schedule and quality constraints.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Extensive experience in HV primary design, especially substation design (132kV+ preferred).
• Strong exposure to substation and transmission projects.
• Chartered status (or working towards) highly regarded.
• Full working rights in Australia.

Required skills

• HV primary design and validation.
• Substation equipment selection (transformers, HV/EHV switchgear, surge arresters, busbars).
• CAD software proficiency (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit).
• Knowledge of AS/NZS standards, IEC frameworks and NSP/TNSP requirements.
• Experience in engineering consultancies.
