Platform Engineering Manager

About the role

The Platform Engineering Manager leads the operational management of a 24/7 mission‑critical platform, covering compute, storage, virtualization, backup and Linux systems. This role provides both technical direction and people leadership to ensure reliable, secure and high‑performing infrastructure services that meet agreed service levels.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee a multidisciplinary team delivering Linux systems support and infrastructure engineering, fostering a high‑performing operational culture.
• Maintain platform availability through incident management, on‑call leadership and escalation of complex issues.
• Ensure end‑to‑end operational accountability across in‑house teams and Managed Service Partners, aligning with technical standards and service expectations.
• Drive governance, service‑level management, capacity planning, performance monitoring and security compliance with the Australian Government ISM.
• Collaborate with cloud, connectivity, HPC and application teams to support integrated service delivery and coordinate project resources.
• Manage lifecycle activities such as patching, upgrades, refreshes, vendor relationships, procurement and a significant operational budget.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading technical teams in a 24/7, mission‑critical environment.
• Strong understanding of ITIL‑aligned service management practices and governance forums such as Change Advisory Board.
• Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, including Managed Service Partners and vendors.
