Plant Operator – Banyo Depot, Queensland

About the role

Join a large, fully integrated rail services business operating across South East Queensland. As a Permanent Plant Operator based at Banyo Depot, you will support reactive maintenance, capital renewal projects, and weekend ballast renewal programmes across the network.

Key responsibilities

• Operate earth‑moving plant and on‑track vehicles (once ticketed and qualified).
• Drive heavy vehicles and perform pipe‑laying tasks.
• Carry out labouring, safety spotting, and drainage response duties.
• Support weekend ballast renewal and other infrastructure projects during track closures.
• Travel throughout the South East Queensland network, from Gympie to Varsity Lakes and Rosewood, with occasional regional trips.

Required profile

• Reliable, motivated and able to adapt to changing priorities.
• Willing to work 10 days on / 4 days off roster, including weekend and night shifts.
• Possess a CAT3 driver qualification (or be willing to obtain one) and undergo psychomotor assessment.
• Background in civil construction or a Certificate III in Plant Operations is desirable.

Required skills

• Operation of excavator, loader, grader, and Posi Track.
• Heavy‑vehicle driving.
• Pipe laying.
• Rail‑specific safety and operational training.

What we offer

• Competency‑based hourly rate ranging from $34.89 to $45.13 AUD.
• Base salary potential of $90,000+ per annum, with earnings up to $130,000+ including penalty rates and allowances.
• Certificate III Plant Operations & Pipe Laying training and ongoing rail‑specific training.
