Planning Officer (Policy and Planning Reform)

About the role

The City of Rockingham is looking for a Planning Officer (Policy and Planning Reform) to help shape the City's planning framework and support its strategic planning outcomes. The role focuses on planning policy development, planning reform initiatives and improving the City's planning processes and regulatory framework. It is a full-time position averaging 38 hours per week on a two-year contract, based in Rockingham, Western Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in reviewing, preparing and implementing local planning policies, strategies and procedures
• Support the City's response to State Government planning reforms and legislative changes
• Undertake research and analysis, and contribute to strategic planning projects and studies
• Prepare reports and recommendations
• Provide professional planning advice on policy and reform matters

Required profile

• Degree in Urban Planning or an equivalent in a related field
• Eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia
• Demonstrated experience in a planning-related role
• Current 'C' class driver's licence

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of planning principles, legislation, land use practices and local government planning processes
• Knowledge of the Residential Design Codes (R-Codes), subdivision and development approval processes and related legislation
• Well-developed written and verbal communication, negotiation, decision-making and interpersonal skills
• Project management skills and ability to manage competing priorities

• Salary of $102,707 to $110,461 per year depending on skill and experience
