Pit Patroller - Pilbara Iron Ore Mine

About the role

Rio Tinto is hiring a Pit Patroller for its Pilbara iron ore operations, based in the eastern Pilbara near Tom Price (about 60 km from Brockman). Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the role works closely with Central Control to keep pit operations safe and efficient. It suits someone who enjoys fast-paced mining work, values safety and production targets, and wants to work with large autonomous machines. The position is full-time and permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out daily pre-task risk assessments and follow RTIO safety standards and procedures
• Support the production leadership team, including executing PSI's, attending Plan of Day and grade control meetings, and working with the Central Controller during the shift
• Correct AHT faults and obstacle detection events, monitor fleet performance, identify hazards and communicate safety and production constraints such as weather, road conditions and dig unit moves
• Survey and refine roads, dumps and locations, and secure and demarcate critical haulage points such as crushers, fuel bays and parking areas
• Help dig unit operators improve spot times, monitor windrow heights, carry out post-blast inspections and maintain pit signage
• Train team members and take part in continuous improvement initiatives

Required profile

• Experience in similar roles, step-up positions or Central Control
• Australian C class manual driver's licence or higher
• Currently residing in Western Australia
• Permanent Australian residency with full working rights without sponsorship
• Commitment to safety and ability to work safely and cooperatively in a team

Required skills

• Familiarity with systems such as Frontrunner or Minestar is highly valued
• Exceptional communication and leadership skills
