PhD Scholarships in Cardiovascular Prevention Research

About the role

The George Institute for Global Health, in partnership with UNSW Sydney, invites outstanding candidates to join a newly established NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence focused on switching the world’s salt supply to potassium‑enriched salt for cardiovascular disease prevention. Five funded PhD scholarships are available to contribute to this high‑impact, multidisciplinary programme.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design, implementation and analysis of clinical and implementation trials evaluating potassium‑enriched salt.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team spanning epidemiology, health economics, nutrition, public health policy and global health.
• Contribute to data collection, statistical analysis, and interpretation of trial outcomes.
• Prepare research reports, scientific manuscripts and presentations for national and international audiences.
• Engage with government, industry and community partners to support translation of research findings into policy.

Required profile

• Recent graduate (Honours or Masters) in a health‑related discipline (e.g., epidemiology, nutrition, public health, health economics).
• Strong interest in cardiovascular disease prevention and implementation science.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
