Pharmacy Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a Pharmacy Assistant to join the Pharmacy Department at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Working under the supervision of qualified pharmacists, you will help ensure patients receive safe and timely access to medicines in a busy tertiary hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation, dispensing and supply of medicines under pharmacist supervision.
• Support medicines inventory management, including ordering, stock rotation and use of automated dispensing systems.
• Maintain accurate pharmacy records and update patient and medication information systems.
• Participate in controlled drug management, clinical trial support, repackaging activities and environmental monitoring.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and uphold safe work practices.
• Help train and support other pharmacy support staff as needed.

Required profile

• Motivated and organised individual who values accuracy and patient safety.
• Demonstrated knowledge of medicines, pharmacy terminology, dispensing processes and inventory management.
• Strong organisational, communication and teamwork abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing workloads within scope of practice.

Required skills

• Proficiency with pharmacy information systems.
• Experience using automated dispensing systems.
