Payroll Officer - Mining and Resources

About the role

A recruiter is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer for a Tier One client's finance payroll team, based in West Perth. The role sits in Finance Systems and Operations on a 12-month maximum term contract and covers the day-to-day processing of fortnightly payroll in SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP), acting as the first point of contact for the team.

Key responsibilities

• Process fortnightly payroll end to end in SAP ECP, including pay smoothing, salary sacrifice and standard termination payments
• Set up new starters, including tax file numbers, tax declarations and superannuation
• Prepare fortnightly EFT requisitions and submit them for approval
• Prepare the fortnightly payroll variance report and complete a first-pass review against the prior pay
• Reconcile net pay to the bank file and support STP, superannuation and payroll tax reconciliations
• Answer payroll enquiries from employees and leaders within agreed service timeframes
• Liaise with the People Support Centre on appointments, terminations and pay-affecting changes
• Run first-pass cycle checks, support system testing and help keep procedures current
• Identify ways to simplify or automate work

Required profile

• Proven payroll processing experience with complex employment structures, including allowances, deductions, rosters and bonuses
• Experience with high-volume, high-transaction pay runs
• Sound knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance, including the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, modern awards, PAYG, superannuation and Single Touch Payroll
• Excellent communication skills and sound judgement on confidentiality
• Must be legally entitled to work in Australia and currently residing in Perth

Required skills

• SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP), or a comparable enterprise payroll system
• Solid Excel skills, including pivot tables
• Desirable: payroll experience in mining or resources, Certificate IV in Payroll Administration, exposure to system testing or process improvement
