Nutrition Assistant Casual

About the role

West Moreton Health, a Queensland health service covering Ipswich, Boonah, Gatton, Laidley and Esk, is hiring a Nutrition Assistant on a casual basis. The assistant provides nutrition care for patients by working closely with dietitians, other health care staff and food services, following established procedures and guidelines. Meal and mid-meal provision, including collation of information and quality improvement activities, is part of the work. Several casual opportunities are available across Ipswich and Ripley.

Key responsibilities

• Follow procedures and complete routine tasks such as meal orders, menu option information and guidance for therapeutic and allergen diets, dietary information management and collating production information.
• Oversee the accuracy of main meal and mid-meal service, check dietary compliance and quality, and ensure the safety of therapeutic and allergen diets.
• Arrange and monitor therapeutic menu items, escalating nutrition care concerns to dietitians as per guidelines.
• Perform other delegated duties requested by the Dietitian Team Leader Food Services, such as nutrition screening and updating menu frameworks.

Required profile

• Basic knowledge of hospital food service systems and the ability to learn nutrition principles, therapeutic applications and food safety compliance.
• Sound computer literacy, including basic medical and nutrition terminology.
• Organisation skills to meet work schedules and service deadlines while staying flexible to changing needs.
• Communication and interpersonal skills to work as a team member in a multidisciplinary health setting, with an understanding of own scope of practice.
• Ability to follow quality systems and procedures accurately.
• Vaccination against vaccine-preventable diseases as required by the Health Employment Directive.
