Mums & Bubs Physiotherapy Volunteer

About the role

Calvary John James Hospital in Canberra is looking for a warm, caring and reliable volunteer to support its weekly Mums & Bubs post-natal physiotherapy exercise class held on Friday mornings. The program lets new mothers do gentle post-natal exercise while their babies stay nearby, and volunteers help create a relaxed, welcoming and supportive environment by spending time with the little ones.

Key responsibilities

• Play, engage and interact with babies during the exercise class
• Help settle babies when needed
• Provide bottle feeds (expressed breast milk or formula) when requested by the mother
• Offer a friendly, reassuring presence to new mums
• Work alongside the physiotherapy team to make the sessions enjoyable and welcoming

Required profile

• Previous experience caring for or spending time with babies and young children
• Naturally warm, patient, nurturing and approachable
• Comfortable interacting with babies and responding to their needs
• Respects different parenting styles and follows each mother's guidance
• Reliable, confident and happy to work as part of a team
• Able to commit regularly to the Friday morning sessions, as consistency is important for the mothers, babies and team

The role is a weekly, ongoing volunteer position and is not suitable for short-term work experience, student placements, courses or study requirements, nor as a pathway to employment.
