About the role
Join the Department of Justice’s Corrective Services as a Vocational Support Officer delivering engineering and fabrication training within Casuarina and Hakea prison complexes. You will supervise and instruct prisoners in a metalwork shop, helping them gain practical skills for future employment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide on‑the‑job instruction and accredited training in metalwork, mechanical engineering and fabrication.
- Supervise daily shop operations, ensuring safety, quality and compliance with prison regulations.
- Develop and deliver lesson plans, assess learner progress and issue certifications.
- Maintain equipment, tools and workshop inventory.
- Collaborate with prison staff to support prisoners’ rehabilitative pathways.
Required profile
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
- Relevant qualification – Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical or Fabrication) and a Construction Industry White Card.
- Ability to obtain a National Criminal History check and departmental integrity assessment.
- Current Australian C‑class driver’s licence.
