About the role
Join AECOM’s Adelaide Building Engineering team to design and deliver mechanical handling systems for major nuclear and defence infrastructure. You will work across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning and operational readiness.
Key responsibilities
- Lead design and engineering of cranes, hoists, lifting devices and associated equipment, ensuring compliance with project, operational and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and review technical specifications, calculations, design documentation and equipment schedules across concept, preliminary and detailed design phases.
- Collaborate with structural, civil, electrical, controls, process and building services teams to integrate handling systems into complex facilities.
- Conduct optioneering, load‑path and heavy‑lift assessments, constructability and risk reviews to support design decisions.
- Provide technical leadership, support safety cases, procurement activities, vendor reviews and technical bid evaluations for safety‑significant equipment.
Required profile
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience delivering crane or lifting systems on major infrastructure, defence, energy, marine, nuclear or other highly regulated projects.
- Experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated environments, with knowledge of safety‑significant equipment, ALARP principles and lifecycle requirements.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Required skills
- Design of overhead and gantry cranes, specialised lifting systems and crane runway systems.
- Load‑path analysis, heavy‑lift and optioneering assessments.
- Safety case development, hazard analysis and reliability engineering.
- Procurement, vendor management, factory acceptance testing, commissioning and operational readiness.
