Mechanical Engineer – Nuclear Ventilation

About the role
We are seeking a Ventilation Engineer with nuclear experience to join our Adelaide Building Engineering team. You will work on complex, safety‑significant projects in a highly regulated environment, designing specialist ventilation and containment systems.
Key responsibilities
- Lead design and engineering of nuclear ventilation systems, including HVAC, air handling units, filtration, ductwork and related mechanical plant.
- Develop and review technical specifications, calculations, equipment schedules and design documentation through concept, preliminary and detailed design phases.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ventilation systems into overall facility design.
- Conduct engineering studies, airflow modelling, contamination control assessments and hazard/risk analyses to support design decisions.
- Support safety cases, engineering justifications, requirements management and verification & validation activities for safety‑significant systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, manage scope, programme, resources and deliverables.
- Assist with commissioning, testing, balancing, containment verification and performance acceptance activities.
Required profile
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with experience delivering ventilation/HVAC on major regulated projects.
- Background in nuclear, defence, pharmaceutical, life‑sciences, laboratory or similar highly regulated environments.
- Understanding of safety culture, regulatory requirements and ALARP principles.
- Chartered Engineer/CPEng status or commitment to achieve it; ability to meet AUKUS clearance requirements.
